Central Florida is often said to comprise the central part of the state, roughly between the cities of Tampa and Daytona Beach. The largest cities being Orlando, Tampa, and Lakeland. Although, most recently, Tampa has become recognized as its own region so the focus is now more of an oval surrounding Greater Orlando.
Central Florida has experienced significant growth and development in recent decades. The population is now about 6 million people. The region’s economy is diverse, encompassing industries such as tourism, healthcare, technology, education, agriculture, and manufacturing.
The region is home to a number of popular tourist destinations, including Walt Disney World Resort, Universal Orlando Resort, and SeaWorld Orlando. It is also home to a number of other attractions, such as Kennedy Space Center, the Florida Aquarium and, of course, our world-famous beaches! The region is home to a number of technology companies, including NASA and Lockheed Martin.
Boasting numerous lakes, rivers, and springs, including the famous Silver Springs, Wekiwa Springs, and Blue Spring State Park, there are also nature preserves and wildlife refuges. That means we offer lots of opportunities for hiking, camping, boating, and wildlife observation.
Orlando is home to the University of Central Florida (UCF), one of the largest universities in the United States. Other notable educational institutions include Rollins College, Stetson University, and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
Central Florida has a vibrant sports scene. The region is home to professional sports teams, such as the Orlando Magic (NBA) and Orlando City SC (MLS). It also hosts various sporting events and competitions, including the Daytona 500, one of NASCAR’s most prestigious races held at the Daytona International Speedway.
Central Florida has a humid subtropical climate, with hot, humid summers and mild winters. We receive an average of 55 inches of rain per year — along with abundant sunshine — making it an attractive destination for outdoor activities and recreation.
